The medical examinations are mostly taken at one of the Armed Forces Medical Examination Centers and are considered final for selection into the training of NDA. These medical test examinations are a series of medical and physical tests to ensure the candidates comply with the stringent health standards of the Indian Armed Forces. Procedure For the NDA Medical Test

The NDA Medical Test is an important fixture in the selection of candidates for the National Defence Academy. The examination is done by a group of certified medical professionals, who assess the aspects of the physical and mental health of the candidate. Given below is a detailed outline of the NDA Medical Test procedure:

Registration: The candidates that qualify for the NDA written exam need to register for the NDA Medical Test. The registration involves filling in the medical examination form and providing personal and medical history details.  

Medical Examination: The NDA Medical Test is conducted in two phases, namely phase one and phase two. Phase one is when the candidates undergo an initial medical assessment. It includes a general health check-up, urine examination, and blood testing. Candidates who are declared medically fit by phase one go on to phase two. They undergo a complete medical examination. It includes thorough physical examinations, vision testing, hearing assessment, chest X-ray, and other specialized examinations as required.  

The Physical Fitness Test: The Candidate shall also go through a physical fitness test, which consists of a series of exercises meant to measure the physical fitness of the candidate. This includes feats like running, push-ups, sit-ups, and pull-ups.  

Medical Report: After a candidate completes a medical examination, the medical report is done for all the candidates and contains details of the candidate’s physical and mental fitness, medical history, and any offensive findings during the examination.  

Medical Review: This report is reviewed by a Medical Board consisting of medically qualified personnel. It assesses the report. It determines whether a candidate possesses the capability to become an officer in the Indian Armed Forces. 

Medical Standards- NDA Medical Examination

The NDA Medical Test evaluates a prospective candidate’s physical and mental fitness. It is against these specific medical standards as laid down by the Indian Armed Forces. 

Height and Weight: Candidates must fulfil the minimum height and weight parameters for their sex and age. The minimum height is fixed at 157.5 cm for male candidates, while it is 152 cm for female candidates. Minimum weight varies according to height and age of the candidate.

Vision: The candidates should have 6/6 vision in both eyes without any history of colour blindness or night blindness. Candidates with glasses may be entertained as long as their vision conforms to the baseline standards.

Hearing: Candidates should have normal hearing in both ears, having no appreciable loss and the comfort of understanding speech. Candidates who use hearing aids may be entertained in case their hearing functions at the minimum set standard.

Respiratory Health: The candidates must possess normal lung function, free of serious respiratory disorders or asthma. Someone with asthma or other respiratory difficulties might be considered. If the condition is well-controlled and does not interfere with duty performance.

Cardiovascular Health: Candidates must have a normal blood pressure reading, pulse rate, and electrocardiogram (ECG) report. Those with a history of heart disease or high blood pressure may be considered. It depends on whether the condition is well-controlled and does not hamper the ability to perform duties. 

Mental Health: The candidate should be of sound mind and free of any major psychiatric illness or emotional disorder.

Musculoskeletal Health: Candidates should demonstrate a normal range of motion and be free of any serious orthopaedic issues or spinal deformities. Individuals with a history of bone fractures or joint issues may be deemed eligible.
