More than a million young men and women serve in the Indian armed forces every year. You can join the army as an officer or as a soldier. Army recruitment is done according to the RMP (Recruitable Male Population) of each state. For officers, The Indian Army offers a Permanent commission and a Short service commission. In addition, a permanent commission offers long-term benefits while a short-service commission (SSC) offers short-term service and benefits to the officers. Permanent Commission offers a long career in the Indian Army till the age of retirement. Soldiers who opt for PC are commissioned as officers in the Indian Army and can serve up to the age of 60 depending on their physical and mental fitness. Permanent officials of the Commission have the opportunity to rise in the ranks and rise to higher positions in the hierarchy.
Short Service Commission, on the other hand, offers shorter tenure in the Indian Army. SSC officers serve for 10 years, depending on the income scheme, with an option to extend their service up to 14 years. At the end of their tenure, SSC officers may choose a permanent commission or retire to civilian life.
Candidates who have passed or are appearing final year of graduation can apply for Both the “Permanent Commission” and “Short Service Commission”.

Candidates who have passed or are appearing in class 12th can apply for the NDA Academy. After completing the 3-year course in NDA academy you can either choose IMA or OTA.

Any male citizen regardless of caste, class, creed and place of residence can be recruited into the army if he meets the prescribed age, education, physical and medical requirements.
Candidates are advised to visit the nearest Branch Recruitment Office (BRO) in HQ Recruitment Zones and check the dates of recruitment events. Information about recruitment events is also published in all local newspapers.
On the day of the rally, you must carry an attested copy of your educational certificate and six copies of recent passport-size photographs along with the originals of all certificates.
Children of soldiers, ex-servicemen and war widows can also register directly at the nearest training centre on the day of inspection along with the required documents in original. However, they are only checked if they meet the set recruitment requirements.
