For the Navy SSR Post: Candidates who have passed the 10+2 Mathematics and Physics examination in at least one of these subjects – Chemistry/Biology/Information Technology – are under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Education. Senior Secondary Recruits (SSR) from India are eligible.
For the Navy AA post: Candidates who want to apply for the post of Art Apprentice (AA) must have passed the 10+2 examination and have 60% marks in Mathematics and Physics. This means that the applicant must have a school board certificate in mathematics and physics and at least one of these subjects – chemistry/biology/information technology, approved by the Ministry of Education. from India.

Selection of recruits is based on the order of merit on their performance in the Written Test, qualifying Physical Fitness Test (PFT) and fitness in the Medical Examinations.
PFT will consist of a 1.6 Km run to be completed in 7 minutes, 20 squat-ups (Uthak Baithak) and 10 Push-ups. Candidates undergoing PFT will do so at their own risk. Qualifying in the Physical Fitness Test is mandatory for selection.
Medical examination will be conducted by authorized military doctors as per medical standards prescribed in current regulations applicable to sailors on entry.
Minimum height 157 cm. Weight and Chest should be proportionate. Minimum chest expansion of 5 cm.
Initial Medical Examination for recruitment will be considered only “Provisionally fit subject to fitness in the final medical examination”. The Final Medical Examination of all selected candidates will be done at INS Chilka. Candidates, who are NOT found medically fit in the final medical examination at INS Chilka, will NOT be enrolled for training. No “Appeal” is permitted for review after the final enrollment medical examination at INS Chilka.

In the Indian Navy, AA means Artificer Apprentices and SSR means Senior Secondary Recruit.
