Required Height For Males and Females in the Indian Air Force

Medical boards have set specific height standards for male and female applicants seeking to join the Indian Air Force.

  • Male applicants need to be a minimum of 157.5 cm tall.
  • Female applicants must be at least 152 cm tall.

It is important to mention that candidates from the northeastern region or hilly areas, such as Gorkhas, Kumaonies, Garhwalis, and Assamese, are eligible for a height relaxation of up to 5 cm.

Chest – Medical Standards in the Air Force for Both Males and Females

 

  • Medical boards have established minimum chest requirements for both males and females. 
  • Both males and females are expected to have a well-formed chest. For male candidates, a minimum chest expansion of 5 cm is required during inhalation. 

Important Note: The following guidelines apply to chest measurements taken using instruments:

  • Readings less than 0.5 cm will be recorded as 0.0 cm.
  • A reading of exactly 0.5 cm will be recorded as 0.5 cm.
  • Readings greater than 0.5 cm will be recorded as 1 cm.

Vision Criteria For Males and Females in the Indian Air Force

The candidate must satisfy the specified vision requirements. There are two branches: Executive and Technical, each with distinct vision standards. The candidate must satisfy the specified vision requirements.

Physical Conditions

The Medical Boards have outlined particular physical criteria for both males and females aspiring to join the Indian Air Force.  

  • Earwax is not allowed.  
  • Candidates must be free of any skin disorders, including acne vulgaris, warts, or fungal infections.  
  • There should be no dental issues, including temporary fillings, and at least 14 dental points are required.  
  • Candidates must not have experienced a hernia or abdominal surgery in the last year.  
  • Conditions like hydrocele, varicocele, or haemorrhoids are not permissible.  
  • Any issues affecting the bones and joints will lead to immediate disqualification.  
  • A history of mental breakdowns or seizures is a disqualifying factor.  
  • Sufficient hearing ability is essential.  
  • Any signs of functional or structural heart and vascular diseases will result in rejection.  
  • Blood pressure levels must fall within the normal range.  
  • Tattoos are strictly forbidden, except on the inner forearms and the back or palm; however, there is an exemption for tribal groups regarding their religious tattoos.
